Tegan has been with NTCR for about a year and a half now. I don't think he was ever shown real affection until he came to us. He was dumped by a breeder to a high kill shelter. That breeder either kept him caged up or didn't show him any affection - at all, ever. He was likely never held or petted or loved. He never had toys, never got to be a "kitten," and didn't know what being a companion was. He came to my [foster] home from another foster home. He wasn't happy there because he doesn't like dogs. In ~2 months at my home, his personality started to come out. After 6 months, he's an entirely different cat. He's amazingly sweet, playful (loves toys!), loves to talk, and to be around me. The quickest way to his heart is through his stomach...he LOVES food, especially canned food, and treats! He is now letting me pick him up and cuddle him for brief periods of time. This is really amazing given his start in life. His coat requires a lot of care and daily brushing, which he loves. He will take time to adjust to a new environment, i.e. several months. I'm being exceptionally blunt about this to set expectations. If you're not willing to give him that time, he's not the right cat for you. He is not available for adoption outside of Texas. He is not a good traveler and I will not intentionally cause him the stress of a long trip. He needs a quiet home - no dogs or young children.  He absolutely loves kittens and is good with other cats. (He'd be best with a more laid-back or submissive personality cat(s)). He is very good about using his litter box and scratching posts.
